On May 12, 2017, Scott Graham gave the commencement address to the 2017 graduates of the Dental Assisting and the Dental Hygiene programs at Forest Park Community College in St. Louis, Missouri. Graham has a long connection with Forest Park Community College, including teaching courses there as adjunct faculty, and was honored to share his knowledge and experience with the new graduates.
Graham commended the graduates on their achievement and shared some of his experiences in the professional world of dentistry. He also offered his advice to the graduates. Graham said, “I remember coming out of college and then graduate school and wondering how to get ahead in my new career path, so I wanted to say some things that might help these young people.” Graham encouraged the graduates to volunteer, learn through professional conferences, get involved in their professional organizations, and make their voice heard about changes in dentistry as the healthcare landscape changes. This guidance will help them contribute to a stronger dental community.
Most of all, Graham encouraged the graduates on their choice of such an important profession in which they get to help others. Working in dentistry can be challenging but also very rewarding because you get to make a difference in people’s lives. Graham welcomed the graduates to their new professional world and encouraged them to do their very best.
